Mini Big Day

Long overdue but just a recap on my engagement on Christmas eve 2011. What do they call it on Instagram? Throwback? I'm not an active Instagramer. Okay I think the engagement deserves a proper entry so here goes, whatever I can remember from one year plus ago. Initially we wanted both our families to meet and THAT'S all. But you know how things can go out of control and before we knew it, my parents were already inviting some relatives and things just got bigger then on. It was just a simple affair though, nothing fancy.

Firstly, the engagement was at my JB house. I don't know of any decent make-up artist from JB. So I just decided to get a make-up artist from Mac or Bobbi Brown. I chose Bobbi in the end cause they're slightly cheaper. I wanted to save badly I didn't get the make-up artist to come my house. That would double the price. I actually drove to their outlet the morning of my engagement to get my make-up done. I also didn't get any trial make-up done prior to the engagement. Confident! -.- I regretted this immensely cause I didn't like my make-up. Although my friends were being nice about it, saying I looked fine. Cost me just RM80 though.

Tailored lace outfit. I didn't even want to get a new outfit at first, since it was supposed to be just his family and mine. But since things went out of proportion, Mom advised me to get a new baju. Why purple? Because engagement is usually an event where only the girl will dress up as the guy won't even need to come to the ceremony at all (although nowadays, the guy will come after the ceremony is over). So purple is a colour that I can wear and he doesn't need to wear. I don't really like guys wearing purple, except for songket.

Hair done by BFF. So I saved on hair-do as well. She bought some flowers for the hair, ended up not using. She patiently curled my hair that day while listening to my nervous chatter. Haha.

Cloth and ribbons to prettify the staircase.

Potpourri, glass jars and candles (not in picture) from Ikea. The 'Best Girlfriend' plaque was from him some time ago. :D

Didn't get a complete picture of this. Some cake stands missing. Mom sewed the tablecloth. Printed the labels and bought some jars.

Watch for him. I don't think I should get a man a ring for an engagement. But a month later, I still got him a cheap stainless steel ring from Calvin Klein, cause he kept saying he wanted a ring as well. -.-

Gifts from sweet, sweet friends:

Engagement presents from friends! Yes, I received another Tiffany that day. :)

Useful wedding planner from BFF. :)

The rest of the gift trays were all food, some contributed by relatives. Gift trays were also DIY-ed, so our trays looked quite budget haha. And as you can tell, photos unprofessionally captured, by sister. Contemplated on getting a professional photog but decided not to spend. Got my sister to help and just printed them and slotted in albums. But printing quality wasn't great. I don't know if it's because of my camera or the printing itself. Saved on this as well. Oh! Food kindly sponsored by parents.

The only things we really spent on were on the watch, ring and my baju. Other than that, we didn't spend on anything much. I remember feeling super nervous. My granddad made it worse by telling the guy's side that we will get married in 6 months, when we had actually agreed on 2 years. Haha. But all's well after that. He was appointed the wakil at the last minute, and nobody informed him of the "terms". He's living in KL so, he didn't know what was going on before that. :/ My friends had to calm me down haha.

I didn't think engagement was necessary though. I rather save the money and spend it on the wedding. I would prefer just our immediate families and maybe one or two relatives. One gift tray for my ring and hantaran would suffice. And a few gift trays in return for his watch and some food would be enough. But that wasn't the case for mine though I didn't spend on a lot of things. And I really hope the wedding won't make me a nervous wreck like how I was during the engagement. =x
